ASR Artificial Hip System Defect Attorney
During August of 2010, a global recall was issued by DePuy Orthopedics for its hip replacement system, following an investigative news report by the New York Times that questioned the success rate of the hip replacement devices. Patients that use these DePuy devices experience a 12 percent failure rate; of every eight people who received these DePuy devices, one person must undergo a painful and debilitating procedure to avoid more serious health conditions. It is estimated that 11,000 people may be facing serious medical risks as a direct result of the defective DePuy hip replacement.
The DePuy Orthopaedics recall of their hip replacement system, however, is far overdo. Over the course of the past two years, numerous reports have cited the faulty nature of the hip replacement devices as evidence of the need to pull them from the market.
These devices were approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) without having undergone clinical trials. Recently, the FDA has entertained the complaints of hundreds of faulty DePuy hip replacement recipients. According to the New York Times, the FDA received over 300 complaints of the defective DePuy hip replacement devices in 2009; it is likely that this figure underestimates the amount of DePuy hip replacement recipients that have already undergone painful procedures to remove or replace the faulty devices.
